PastaWorks
Pastaworks is pleased to provide fresh pasta to Sisters of the Road and P:ear. Since 1979, Sisters Of The Road has been an essential part of the Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood. Sisters offers a space to build community, empower ourselves, learn from one another, dine with dignity and organize for justice and human rights for all.
Sisters Of The Road's mission is to build authentic relationships and alleviate the hunger of isolation in an atmosphere of nonviolence and gentle personalism that nurtures the whole individual, while seeking systemic solutions that reach the roots of homelessness and poverty to end them forever. Fresh meals and a working cafe are central to this work and Pastaworks is proud to provide pasta to the kitchen.
P:ear builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth, ages 15 to 24, through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives. Each year our programs serve more than 550 homeless and transitional young people.
To truly exit homelessness, kids must develop the internal strength, skills and foresight to make healthy choices. p:ear provides a safe, non-judgmental environment in which youth are trusted to outgrow unproductive and harmful behaviors. We offer individualized mentoring and education programs in a safe, reliable setting designed to foster trust, build self-esteem and to teach homeless and transitional kids – who all too often are regarded by society as disposable, "hopeless cases" – that they are valuable individuals with a future who have something vital to contribute to this community. Breaking bread together is an important part of creating this environment and again Pastaworks is proud to help stock P:ear's kitchen.
B-Line Sustainable Urban Delivery provides the crucial delivery connection between Pastaworks, Sisters of the Road and P:ear.
After delivering fresh goods to Pastaworks B-Line picks up our fresh pasta and delivers it to both agencies, located within a couple of blocks of one another in Portland's Old Town.
B-Line believes in: collaborative relationships that honor and build upon one another; flexibility, simplicity, and playfulness;leveraging the voice, leadership, and passion of our community in the quest for a healthier planet; and, growing a business that is profitable yet unwavering in its commitment to community and sustainability.
As a transportation company, B-Line’s vision is to redefine how goods and services are transported in our increasingly urban environment by simply providing the right tool for the job. As an advertising and promotions company, B-Line seeks to combine flexibility with ingenuity. As a stakeholder in our community, B-Line is passionate about creating a company that is part of a solution and a partner in living. We seek to enrich the fabric of our cities by reducing congestion and CO2 emissions, developing local green-collar jobs, partnering with local manufacturers and small businesses, doing our share to help those in need in our community, and generally believing in the premise that business can be a catalyst for positive change and has a responsibility to the common good.

Mom's Day tasting
While you stroll the boulevard and take in the sun this coming weekend, please plan to stop in the Hawthorne store and treat yourselves and mom to a taste or three of some of Portland's best---Sahagun Handmade Chocolates, Extracto Coffee and Miss Zumstein's Desserts. And, meet the author of Pure Beef: An Essential Guide to Artisan Meat!
We first met Sahagun owner and chocolate maker Elizabeth Montes years ago at the Portland Farmers Market. We have been fans ever since. As Elizabeth states," At Sahagun, we focus on the delicious, the unique, the new. We follow our imaginations for the pure and the exciting. We respect the ingredients we have to work with and strive to unlock different aspects of their nature."
Chris and Celeste Brady's Extracto Coffee is now Pastaworks best selling coffee. Peter starts his day with a cappuccino or two made with Extracto's Eleven of Spades and finishes his coffee consumption with an espresso from the same blend late in the afternoon. After tasting Extracto's offerings you'll be hooked, too.
Miss Zumstein makes some of our favorite sweet things, from cookies and bars to tarts and cakes. For Mother's Day, Miss Z will sample an array of delectable sweeties guaranteed to be the perfect end to a festive meal.
Meet Lynne Curry, author of Pure Beef: An Essential Guide to Artisan Meat
With all of these new choices of artisan beef on the market — including natural, organic, and grassfed — Lynne Curry's Pure Beef: An Essential Guide to Artisan Meat with Recipes for Every Cut answers home cooks' pressing questions: Which beef should I buy? Where can I buy it? How should I cook it? A groundbreaking guide to artisan beef, this cookbook features charts and tutorials, plus many recipes for a delicious ranch-to-table dining experience. Pure Beef is the most up-to-date cookbook that addresses the natural and grassfed beef trend, the fastest growing market segment in the $75 billion cattle industry.
Lynne's visit is hosted by Pastaworks and co-sponsored by Powell's Home and Garden Bookstore and Ecotrust/Edible Portland.
Saturday, May 12, 2-4PM at the Hawthorne store.
